Uniform Day (with an evil twist...)
Friday 12 February is set to be a school day with a difference for our Principal and Heads of Year!
(left to right) 'CVC Pupils' Corinne Davidson (deputising for Hannah Compton), Lynn Stewart, Stephen Munday, Ms Phull, Mary Swarbrick and Anne Jones.
Pupils at the college are used to non-uniform days during the year to raise funds for named charities. This time, it is the teachers' turn! Executive Principal Stephen Munday together with all five Heads of Year will wear school uniform for the whole day. They will attend some lessons and join in various pupil activities.
The idea is to raise money for four worthy causes, as highlighted below.
Please do give generously to one of our chosen charities if you are able to do so. The school would like to raise a total of at least £1,000 (and much more) if at all possible. Each of the following links will take you to a JustGiving 'Uniform Day' appeal page where Gift Aid can be added to your donation of choice if you are a UK taxpayer.
Go to our JustGiving page for the East Anglia's Children's Hospices1. East Anglia's Children's Hospices (Charity Registration No. 1069284) "EACH has three children's hospice care services based at Milton in Cambridge, Quidenham in Norfolk and Ipswich in Suffolk. EACH is a registered charity that relies on public support for the majority of its income. There are an estimated 23,500 children in the UK who are not expected to reach adulthood. Caring for a child or young person with a life-threatening illness, often for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, can put a huge strain on family life. Life can become governed by the timetable of nursing and medical needs. Careers may have to be put on hold, healthy brothers and sisters can feel left out and regular family activities and holidays can be rare. During all of this, families are going through a process of grieving. EACH's three multi-disciplinary care teams help local children with life-threatening conditions and complex healthcare needs, and their families with the emotional and physical challenges they face, helping them to make the most of life. They welcome the whole family for a short break together or time to themselves in a home-from-home environment or in the comfort of their own home. They offer a diverse range of supportive care including: short break care, specialist play, music therapy, care at end of life, telephone support, practical help and bereavement support for all family members, including siblings and grandparents." Go to our JustGiving page for the Teenage Cancer Trust2. Teenage Cancer Trust. (Charity Registration No. 1062559) Many students at the school have been keen to support this particular charity and it has featured many times in their fundraising activities. "Every day in the UK, six teenagers are diagnosed with cancer. At Teenage Cancer Trust, we understand that cancer doesn't stop these teenagers being teenagers. We know that young people have a much better chance if they are treated by teenage cancers experts, in an environment tailored to their needs. So we have created specialist units that aren't like ordinary cancer wards. Everything about them has been designed to give teenagers the very best chance of a positive outcome and we want every young person with cancer in this country to have that chance." Donate Online
Go to our JustGiving page for the CVC Trust Fund's Appeal for Africa3. CVC Trust Fund's Africa Appeal (Charity Registration No 288773) for our African link schools. We continue to need to raise funds for our link schools in Pretoria, South Africa and Maputo, Mozambique. Funds are needed to provide basic equipment for these schools and to permit some of their students to visit us. "The Comberton Village College Trust Fund was established to generate additional funding to support the work of CVC both for its pupils and the wider community. All funding received by the Trust is used exclusively to improve facilities and equipment at the school." Donate Online
