There was no rest day for Comberton Executive Principal Stephen Munday on The Cam Academy Trust’s fact-finding mission to China.
On Sunday Mr Munday, the Trust CEO, delivered a lecture about developments in teacher training and staff professional development to more than 1000 Chinese teachers and teacher training professionals.
He was one of the speakers at an annual conference in Beijing for teachers from across China.
The conference was also attended by Head of School Peter Law and MFL teacher and Trust Director of International Education Rachel Hawkes, who are also on the trip paid for by the Chinese government as they look to build links between their schools and schools in the UK.
Aside from Mr Munday’s speech there was more than 4 hours of uninterrupted presentations on the subjects of developing creativity in learning and developing standards for teachers.
All were delivered in Mandarin with the English staff getting in-ear simultaneous translation as well as on-screen translation.
And Mr Law reported that the difference between the two translations presented some interesting variations on the message being delivered.
However he added: “One thing that was clear is that there is much that both the Chinese and the English education systems can learn from each other, and that this visit has been the start of a very meaningful and useful partnership for all involved.”
