Construction is a subject that enables skills development in relation to the construction industry.
You will develop a range of construction skills including carpentry, joinery, electrical installations, painting and decorating, tiling and plumbing. An insight into safety and security issues will also be gained. You will learn how construction projects are planned.
Eduqas (formerly WJEC) Level 1 & 2 Award in Constructing the Built Environment.
You will complete a number of practical-based assignments designed to enable you to develop the necessary skills and be able to demonstrate proficiency in a number of construction tasks. In addition, theory aspects will include the operation of the construction industry and issues relating to safety and security.
Students will be expected to undertake revision independently in the run up to their exams
Unit 1: Safety and security in construction is externally assessed by a 60-minute examination completed in year 10.
Unit 2: Developing construction projects is internally assessed in the form of a portfolio containing photographs, diagrams and planning documents.
Unit 3: Planning construction projects is externally assessed by a 120-minute examination completed in year 11.
A significant number of pupils who have previously completed this course have moved on to higher studies and training at Cambridge Regional College. A number of students are apprentices or are now working in the construction industry.
The course will appeal to those interested in pursuing careers in the construction industry. No prior knowledge, understanding, skills or qualifications are required.
