Could you make a positive contribution to our school?
9th May 2022
Comberton Village College is a highly successful, community mixed comprehensive school in a pleasant rural setting only 5 miles from the centre of Cambridge. We currently have over 1,900 11-18 year old pupils on roll with a sixth form centre. Our pupils are well motivated, staff morale is excellent and our examination results are outstanding.
The Governing Body is seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our effective cohesive team of people. As a governor you will be a volunteer who makes a vital contribution to the success of our school. Comberton Village College is part of the Cam Academy Trust and our Local Governing Body sits as part of the Trust’s over-arching governance.
Governors have three main roles:
- To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
The governing body helps to set long-terms plans for the school, decide where improvements need to be made and how to make them.
- To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
The governing body looks at the quality of education being offered and ensures the Principal is doing everything possible to improve results.
- To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.
Governors examine budgets and spending proposals to monitor whether our school is getting best value for money and ensure the money is spent in the right areas.
This role may be particularly of interest if you have skills in education, data, finance/accounting or human resources but we invite applications from anyone who may be interested in helping our school achieve its best. The role is not that of Parent Governor (as these posts are already filled) and applications are similarly welcome both from those who may have a link to the school and those who do not.
We are looking for someone who can attend approximately four full governing body meetings per year and around four committee meetings per year. Meetings are held in school (or online), usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening from around 6pm to 8pm. Governors also spend time in school during the day (around two visits per term). Full training is available (and may be completed online).
Informal meetings will be held with suitable candidates to discuss the role further and to answer any questions before meeting the Full Governing Body at their next meeting on 8th July. The Trust Board appoints Local Governors, most usually on the recommendation of our Local Governing Body.
Our school is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in our care and you will be expected to share this commitment. All Governors will be subject to an enhanced DBS check prior to appointment. For an application form or for more information, please email our clerk to governors Mrs Lisa Brent firstname.lastname@example.org. Closing date for expressions of interest 10th June 2022
To be eligible for this role you must be over 18 years.
