Creative iMedia (Level 1 & 2 Certificate )

Our Creative iMedia course is offered at Key Stage 4 only. Pupils learn a wide range of knowledge and skills needed to work in the creative digital media sector.

What is Level 1 & 2 Certificate in Creative iMedia?

The Cambridge National in Creative iMedia equips students with the wide range of knowledge and skills needed to work in the creative digital media sector:

This subject will enable learners to understand pre-production skills used in the creative and digital media sector. It will develop their understanding of the client brief, time frames, deadlines and preparation techniques that form part of the planning and creation process.

Planning is an essential part of working in the creative and digital media sector. This course will enable learners to acquire the underpinning knowledge and skills needed to create digital media products and gain an understanding of their application.

On completion of this course, learners will understand the purpose and uses of a range of pre-production techniques. They will be able to plan pre-production of a creative digital media product to a client brief, and will understand how to review pre-production documents

What skills will I develop?

  • Creative iMedia in the media industry

In this unit you will learn about the sectors, products and job roles that form the media industry.

You will learn the legal and ethical issues considered and the processes used to plan and create digital media products.

You will learn how media codes are used within the creation of media products to convey meaning, create impact and engage audiences.

  • Visual identity and digital graphics

In this unit you will learn how to develop brands and visual identities for clients.

You will also learn to apply the concepts of graphic design to create original digital graphics which incorporate your visual identity to engage a target audience.

You will also learn a range of design skills using the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Interactive digital media

In this unit you will learn to design and create interactive digital media products for chosen platforms.

Interactive digital media products are found across the media industry, in games, websites and apps, and learning.

You will learn to select, edit and repurpose multimedia content of different kinds and create the interactive elements necessary for an effective user experience

What syllabus will I follow?

OCR Level 1/2 Cambridge National Certificate in Creative iMedia (603/7090/7) 

What will the course look like?

The course starts at pre-production theory and develops through practical assignments leading up to completion of two large coursework projects. Theory and digital graphics in year 10. Exam and interactive media in year 11.

What homework will I get?

Homework will be limited to research or revision tasks.

How will I be assessed?

Creative iMedia in the media industry
(Exam - 40%) 1 hour 30 minutes

Visual identity and digital graphics (Coursework - 25%)

And one optional unit:

Interactive digital media
(Coursework - 35%)

What jobs or further courses of study might this lead to?

The skills, knowledge and understanding you will develop through this qualification are very relevant to both work and further study. They will support you in a range of subject areas such as A Level in business, or Cambridge Technicals in IT or media. Your skills will also support your progression into employment through apprenticeships in areas such as digital media or business marketing.

Are there any entry requirements for this course?

The course is accessible and relevant to all pupils.

There are numerous online resources available. In the first instance students should contact their teacher who will be able to direct them to the most suitable resources and/or tutorials. Class resources, tutorials and useful links for this course will also be made available electronically and can be accessed from school or home.
